Halloween Happenings At Haigh Hall in Wigan.

Haigh Hall is reported to be one of the most haunted buildings in Wigan, where staff and visitors have experienced some strange and spooky goings on.

One Ghost story is one of lost love. After more than seven years of absence, Sir William returns to Haigh Hall to find Mabel had married a Welsh knight, believing her husband to be dead. In a state of fury, Sir William chased the knight to Newton Le Willows and killed him. For her act of bigamy, Mabel was forced to walk barefoot from the Hall to a stone cross on the highway to Wigan. The cross became know as Mabel’s Cross (Mabs Cross).

William de Bradshaighs’ long suffering wife can still be see walking this route and has been heard singing in the grounds.

Apart from the ghost of Lady Mabel, children have been seen and heard playing in the courtyard of Haigh Hall. These children were victims of a fire in the old stables that burnt down, the courtyard was built on top of the stables in 1865, and within the Mabs Gallery, there has reportedly been poltergeist activity, and sightings of a White Lady.

During the night you will take part in seances and vigils within the Hall, use paranormal equipment and the brave few will be able to go off in small groups to hold their own vigils, you will need to wear suitable footwear and bring a torch.
